Features That Need Improvements

1. Who will watch free movies content?

When free movies library of Sony LIV compared to Hotstar’s library, the free movies of Sony LIV stands nowhere near Hotstar’s. Hotstar’s free movie collection is way better than Sony LIV. It is quite evident why the free movies are made free in Sony LIV.

When its contenders are providing a better library for free, Sony LIV should take a step to improve and upgrade its library that is currently full of crap. The absence of popular movies in the free content makes it worse. Moreover, Sony LIV is lagging behind in innovations when compared to its competitors. Spuul has the download feature available, but Sony LIV has no such feature to counter-attack it.

2. Very basic media player

You cannot adjust the resolution of the video you are watching. If you have less data, you cannot lower down the resolution of the video to lower the consumption of your mobile data. The media player is very basic and if it has to catch up with all other competitors, then Sony LIV has to include resolution adjustment feature as well. Furthermore, Sony LIV does not support Chromecast that only adds fuel to the fire.

3. Lack of Cinematic Content

Sony and Star Plus are two biggest brands in India Television world that compete with each other. Unline Hotstar by Start India Pvt, Sony LIV lacks in Content. Hotstar is full of TV shows, Movies, and Sports while Sony LIV is more focused on sports.

For the price tag equal to Hotstar, why someone would choose SonyLIV.  If Sony is seeing Hotstar as a competitor then an expansion of content is obviously required.

Our Verdict

Being a Football fan, I’m very much attracted to Sony LIV. But as a viewer, Sony LIV is not value for money package at all. Premium accounts will only let you watch some premium latest movies that you might have watched in theatre or TV. Apart from movies, sports and TV shows are free and come with no hidden cost. If movies are your concern then Netflix (Paid), Voot (Free), Hotstar(Free) are the excellent place to start.
